At this year’s ceremony, last October 22nd, 31 youth were recognized for having completed various stages of the residential and aftercare components of the Portage program.
Referring to the Recognition theme, “You Didn’t Come This Far… To Not Go Even Further”, words of encouragement and hope were delivered by guest speakers, including the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick; Mr. Peter A. Howlett, President of Portage; Dr.Russell H.T. King, Chairman, Portage Atlantic board of directors; and Dr. Dennis Furlong, Portage Atlantic board member.
The master of ceremony, Fred Laforge, 2001 Portage graduate conveyed the importance of Portage Atlantic in his life. The parents of a 2017 graduate, Suzanne and Ancel Murphy, shared their heartfelt gratitude to Portage Atlantic.
Much emphasis is placed on education at Portage and educational milestones were recognized during the ceremony. Of the youth who were recognized at the Recognition event, many are enrolled in post-secondary institutions and several have been awarded bursaries.
