Your mission

The Human Resources Advisor serves as a subject matter expert and resource person for Portage’s managers and teams. Reporting to the Human Resources Department, this person supports the organization in the application of labor laws, the development of HR practices, labor relations, talent management, and manager support.

Through their expertise, professional judgment, and in-depth knowledge of applicable labor standards and legal obligations, they help ensure management practices remain compliant, equitable, and aligned with Portage’s values. They also play a key role in providing support, coaching, and guidance to managers to foster a healthy, engaging, and respectful work environment.

Your daily routine

Advisory Role and Support for Managers

  • Serve as the primary resource person for all human resources-related matters.
  • Support and advise managers in the interpretation and application of HR policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Assist managers with performance management, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and the handling of complex workplace situations.
  • Provide coaching to managers to strengthen their human resources management skills.

Labour Relations and Legal Compliance

  • Monitor legislative developments and recommend required adjustments to ensure organizational practices remain compliant.
  • Advise the organization on the application of employment laws and regulations related to occupational health and safety, employment standards, equity, privacy protection, and labour relations.
  • Participate in administrative, disciplinary, or harassment investigations as required.
  • Draft and revise HR policies, procedures, and documentation.

Talent Acquisition and Development

  • Contribute to talent acquisition, attraction, and employee retention strategies.
  • Support onboarding, employee integration, and probationary processes.
  • Participate in identifying training needs and support skills development initiatives.
  • Collaborate on talent management and succession planning initiatives.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of HR programs, tools, and practices.
  • Analyze organizational challenges and recommend solutions aligned with operational realities.
  • Support strategic projects aimed at improving the employee experience and organizational performance.

Your experience

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or Industrial Relations.

CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) or CIRC designation is considered a strong asset.

Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as an HR Advisor.

Excellent knowledge of employment legislation and human resources best practices.

Significant experience advising managers and handling complex workplace situations.

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment and influence with credibility.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.

High degree of autonomy, discretion, and ability to manage priorities effectively.

Collaborative, pragmatic, and solution-oriented approach.

Your schedule and your benefits

Job Type: permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week

Schedule: Monday to Friday day shift (Hybrid/ possibility for remote)

Salary: to be discussed according to experience

Available for occasional travel
