On September 12, members of the Portage community gathered at Beaver Lake on Mount Royal to take part in the 2026 Recovery Walk. Held during Recovery Month, the event celebrated hope, solidarity and the power of recovery.

Participants included employees, clients from treatment and social reintegration programs, graduates, family members, allies, participants from the Mother and Child and Mental Health and Addiction programs, as well as clients from Portage's Montreal Day Centre. Walking side by side, they demonstrated their support for individuals who are beginning or continuing their recovery journey.

More than 100 participants joined the walk in Montreal this year. The event also brought together people from diverse backgrounds across the province, including in the Laurentians, Quebec City and Châteauguay.

Organized by Kim Bellas, founder of Sober is the New Cool, the Recovery Walk continues to grow each year, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds around a shared message: recovery is possible.

Throughout the morning, participants had the opportunity to connect, share experiences and celebrate the progress made by those committed to recovery. The event also highlighted the vital role that family members, peers, professionals and the broader community play in supporting long-term recovery.

Portage would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated, as well as Kim Bellas and the team at Sober is the New Cool for their continued commitment to promoting recovery and making this inspiring event possible.

Together, we continue to challenge stigma, celebrate success stories and demonstrate that no one has to walk the path to recovery alone.
