At only 16, Julien's life took a turn when he used his first cannabis wax pen. This highly THC-concentrated e-cigarette quickly led him into a spiral of isolation and addiction. Through Portage's Adolescents and Young Adult Program in Prevost, Julien was able to work on the underlying reasons for his substance use and learn to express his feelings. Today, his perspective has completely changed: "I'm happier; I feel complete. I'm optimistic [about the future]."
The use of high-concentration THC cannabis, particularly in wax form, poses major risks for young people. Amotivational syndrome is one of the most concerning consequences, manifesting as a significant loss of motivation, academic disengagement, and social isolation. Other serious effects include memory problems, difficulty concentrating, and can even trigger episodes of anxiety or psychosis in vulnerable individuals.
