On September 22, 2018, cyclists, both young and old, took to the country roads and scenic trails that make up the region of Centre Wellington in support of Portage Ontario.
The outpouring of support for Portage’s first-ever cycling event known as Pedal for Portage was tremendous! Not only did participants’ efforts raise $94,000 in proceeds, the ride also brought media and community awareness to the issue of substance abuse amongst our youth and the societal stigma that plagues them.
Thank you to all the sponsors who helped to promote the ride: Beacon Sponsors Grand River Agricultural Society and Tina’s Team; Hope Sponsors Barb McLean & Mort Mitchnick, CRH Canada Group Inc., Global Public Affairs, Michele Power & Brian Livingston, Nick’s Quick Delivery, Red Car Service, and Richard Bowden; Spirit Sponsors Cleveland Clinic Canada, The Canadian Don’t Do Drugs Society, Centre Wellington Ball Hockey Club, and Lindt Canada; and, Friendship Sponsors Adam Steffler Investors Group, Bert’s Auto and Tire, The Bicycle Tailor, Elora Apothecary-Pharmasave, and Fergus Monuments.
Portage is indebted to its volunteers – Nicholas Bachinski, Elaine Casavant, Piera Morra, Ralph Pichler, and Paul Walker – who planned and executed an incredible first event. Special thanks to the Start/Finish Line hosts Grand River Raceway.
Contributions from Pedal for Portage will support Portage’s 40-bed residential drug addiction rehabilitation centre located in Elora, Ontario, so that at risk youth with substance dependencies, can access treatment at Portage immediately and free of cost.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Pedal for Portage will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Don’t miss any updates – email drodrigo@portage.ca to be added to the event email list.
