Montréal, November 25, 2024—Portage, an organization that has helped over 40,000 people take back control of their lives through its specialized addiction treatment programs, is reaffirming its commitment to being a key player in the fight against addiction in Québec. National Addictions Awareness Week, which runs from November 24 to 30, is an ideal time to reiterate that every investment in the prevention or treatment of addiction is another step towards addressing the societal issues that are unfortunately on the rise in Québec.
“Addiction does not only affect individuals with a dependency and their families; it is a major issue for society as a whole. Through its accessible and integrated service offering, Portage helps avoid additional costs by efficiently responding to the needs of individuals with addictions. We are proud to use our expertise to accomplish this essential mission and to support people on their journey to recovery.” - Geneviève Lefebvre, President, Portage
Services that are tailored to various social problems in Québec
As we mark National Addictions Awareness Week, Portage would like to reiterate the importance of ensuring access to rehabilitation services that are tailored to the different needs of individuals struggling with addiction. Portage’s unique service offering, the only one of its kind in Canada, helps people put a stop to their substance use and achieve lasting sobriety. Our services are geared to the needs of various clients, including adolescents, adults, pregnant women, mothers with young children, individuals living with mental health issues, indigenous communities and individuals referred by the justice system.
From April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, Portage helped more than 2,000 people through its different programs, including 1,037 in residential centres, 834 in day centres and 502 in social reintegration. The results seen after 90 days in the social reintegration program were tangible: 83% of participants found a job, 31% registered for a training program, and 94% saw an improvement in their family relationships.
“This National Addictions Awareness Week, we ask all stakeholders in our society to join forces and better support those who are struggling with addiction. Together, we can offer real solutions and build a better future for all.” - Geneviève Lefebvre, President, Portage
