On October 15, 2017, 202 graduates from the Portage Saint-Malachie Centre and the Portage Québec Centre (including the employment training program) celebrated their achievements at the Recognition Ceremony held in Québec City’s Grand Théâtre.

Parents, friends, and generous Portage supporters gathered together for the yearly graduation ceremony. For those who had just completed their treatment program, the event marked the beginning of a new life. For others who completed their program earlier in the year, it was an opportunity to celebrate their new, positive lifestyle. The graduates took to the stage to receive their official diploma, highlighting the completion of their treatment process.

˝I am proud to see my son still sober despite the many challenges life has put in his path since he left Portage. He is a good boy and he is building a good future for himself using the tools he acquired at Portage.  Thank you Portage for helping us get our son back,” stated the grateful father of a young graduate.

Back to school or work

The Portage employment training program in Québec City celebrated the return to work or school of 134 participants. Through their daily involvement in a group program that reinforces the use of tools acquired at Portage, the graduates accomplished what once seemed impossible: achieving their professional dreams. They rebuilt their self-esteem and, most of all, they found their path by engaging in a worthwhile project.

Scholarships

Thanks to the Portage scholarship program, 19 graduates were able to pursue their academic objectives this past year. Launched in 2016, the scholarship program is a great help to youth who did not previously have ready access to an education due to financial considerations.
