The 21st edition of the Soirée des Grands Philanthropes, held on October 3rd, paid tribute to Eric La Flèche, President and Chief Executive Officer of METRO inc.

The evening highlighted Mr. La Flèche’s outstanding contribution to the business community and to the economic development of Québec, as well as his commitment to helping underprivileged youth and adults.

METRO and Portage have worked together for more than 30 years to help young people struggling with addiction. The Portage family is truly privileged to be able to rely on METRO’s steadfast support, for which it is deeply grateful.

The event welcomed 780 guests to Windsor Station’s Salle des pas perdus, in Montréal, as well as 135 guests who attended from Québec City via a live broadcast from the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.  We also had the honour of welcoming Christine Fréchette, Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Minister Responsible for Regional Economic Development and Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and the Montréal Region. We thank her for attending and for supporting Portage’s mission.

Journalist and well-known presenter Isabelle Maréchal co-hosted the evening with TVA Québec anchor Julie Couture. A truly dynamic duo.

During the evening, Laurie and Yasmin, who completed their therapy at Portage, talked about their experience, one in Montréal and the other in Québec City.  The guests were moved by the testimonials, which helped them realize just how much a stay at Portage changed these young women’s lives.  Laurie and Yasmin’s testimonials illustrate perfectly the impact of Portage’s programs in the community.

Christian Marc Gendron and his wife Manon Séguin entertained the guests with a musical repertoire that spanned the generations. The tremendously talented and well-known artist and composer of the hit Piano Man trilogy gave an outstanding performance.

Our sincere thanks to co-chairs Madeleine Paquin, President and Chief Executive Officer of LOSGISTEC from 1996 to 2004, and Pierre Boivin, Chairman of METRO Inc., to the members of the honorary committee, and to the partners, participants and volunteers who helped make the event a success. We would also like to thank the teams of the Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth and the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, who prepared a 4-course gourmet meal for over 900 people, as well as guest chef Helena Loureiro, who prepared a gourmet menu showcasing the flavours of Portugal. All proceeds from the event will go to Portage’s programs in Québec.

This highly successful 21st edition will remain forever in our memories.
