The week of August 19, 2024, marked the opening of the Portage Games at the adolescents and young adults centre in Atlantic Canada at Cassidy Lake. The event was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and friendly competition.

Over the course of the week, the residents participated in a variety of thrilling events, including the 100-meter sprint, the running long jump, and the crowd-favorite welly toss. These games were not only an opportunity for physical activity and fun but also a celebration of resilience and perseverance.

Beyond the fun and excitement, the Portage Games symbolized a much deeper message – the ongoing journey of overcoming addiction. Every race run, every jump made, and every welly tossed reflected the strength, resilience, and determination the residents at Portage Atlantic demonstrate every day as they work towards freeing themselves from addiction. The energy and unity present during the games echoed their shared commitment to building healthier, brighter futures.

The week concluded with a heartwarming closing ceremony, where every youth proudly walked away with at least one medal, celebrating their efforts and achievements. This special moment highlighted how far they have come, both in their athletic pursuits and in their personal journeys of recovery.

The Portage Games not only benefit the young residents; they also offer a unique opportunity for the staff at the centre to strengthen their bonds, share meaningful moments, and witness firsthand the positive impact of their work on the residents and the communities they serve.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this years' Portage Games such a success. The spirit of the event was a true testament to the power of teamwork, community, and the unwavering hope for a better tomorrow.

Thank you to all who made this event possible, and congratulations to our incredible youth for their amazing accomplishments.
