October 31st is a time to celebrate Halloween, but also a great opportunity for the adolescents of the Saint-Malachie residential rehabilitation centre to actively participate in the Saint-Gervais “haunted village” event.

A haunted village in Chaudière-Appalaches

The Saint-Gervais Haunted Village event has been a must for 3 years in the Bellechasse area. This year, a group of six adolescents who are part of the Saint-Malachie Portage addiction rehabilitation program will take part, along with three counselors, in bringing one of the five haunted locations to life. The teenagers will adorn their most ghastly costumes to scare you throughout the course organized by Le Carrefour – Employabilité – Travail de rue team.

Partnerships developed in Eastern Quebec prepare the social reintegration of its clients by recreational, cultural and other activities.

This partnership allows youth to put into practice the skills they’ve learned at Portage in a friendly and supervised setting. This unique opportunity allows them to become actors during the Saint-Gervais Halloween festivities. The Saint-Malachie rehabilitation centre, located on the region’s former ski resort, multiplies partnerships in the Chaudière-Appalaches area to offer young residents original activities, pushing them to open up to others and thus build their self-confidence. This confidence, whether regained or learned, is the basis of the therapeutic approach developed at Portage. It allows teenagers who were often isolated because of their drug use to break the invisible barriers that prevent them from realizing who they truly are and what their true potential is. Activities such as these are perfect hands-on exercises that only enhance therapy and the fight to which these young people committed.
