On October 5, Portage Atlantic proudly celebrated the success of 28 young graduates from its rehabilitation centre in Cassidy Lake during the annual Recognition Ceremony. This heartfelt event is more than a celebration—it’s a tribute to the inspiring journeys of transformation and resilience undertaken by adolescents and young adults who have completed their path to sobriety.

Change is...

Under the theme “Change is,” the ceremony highlighted the many dimensions of change experienced by the youth—personal, familial, and social. It reflects the deep evolution they’ve undergone and the hope that now guides them toward a brighter future.

The Honourable Cindy Miles, Minister of Social Development, joined the ceremony as a guest speaker, offering heartfelt words and celebrating the remarkable achievements of these young individuals alongside their families, staff, and community members.

Supporting the Future Through Education

This year, Portage Atlantic is proud to support seven graduates in continuing their education through its long-standing Bursary Program. As Dave Ferguson, Chair of Portage Atlantic, shared:

“The Bursary Program plays an important role in building confidence and hope. It shows these young people that someone believes in them and their future.”

This initiative provides youth with exceptional opportunities to make a fresh start, build self-esteem, and stay motivated as they move forward.

A Celebration of Resilience

The Recognition Ceremony is a meaningful celebration for the residents at Portage. It’s a time to honour their efforts, progress, and achievements, while bringing together those who have supported them throughout their journey. It brings together everyone who has supported the youth throughout their journey, and it honours the courage, progress, and achievements of each graduate.

Portage Atlantic extends its warmest congratulations to all the graduates and heartfelt thanks to the families, staff, and partners who have stood by them every step of the way.
