Amber Young, Admissions Coordinator at Portage Atlantic, was honoured to receive a cheque on April 21 while attending a weekly meeting of the Fundy Silverados Friendship Club, held at the Sussex and Area Seniors’ Centre.

The Fundy Silverados is a group of men dedicated to fellowship and community support. Guided by their mission — “to enhance the quality of life for members through fellowship and the helping of others in need” — the group meets every Tuesday morning to connect, share, and learn. Many of their meetings feature guest speakers who present on topics of interest and engage in open discussion with members.

During this particular meeting, Amber was joined by two youth who shared their experiences and spoke about the impact of Portage Atlantic’s programs. Their presence helped foster meaningful dialogue and offered members a deeper understanding of how community support plays a vital role in youth recovery.

The donation presented by the Fundy Silverados Friendship Club will contribute to the installation of a small vegetable garden at the Portage Atlantic facility this spring and summer. This initiative aims to enhance the living environment for youth in treatment, offering opportunities for learning, responsibility, and connection with nature.

Portage Atlantic extends its sincere thanks to the Fundy Silverados Friendship Club for their generosity, their warm welcome, and their continued commitment to helping others in the community. Partnerships like these are a powerful reminder that recovery is strengthened when communities come together.
