During National Addictions Awareness Week, Malyka, a graduate of the adolescent and young adult program, completed a seven-day, 500-kilometer cycling journey. This initiative aimed to raise public awareness about addiction challenges and collect funds to support youth in recovery.

This ambitious initiative came to life through several events, including a benefit dinner and raffles supported by local businesses. The challenge quickly gained visibility thanks to community support and committed partners, including Giant Valleyfield, who provided valuable technical assistance throughout the journey.

During her journey, Malyka made a significant stop at the Portage Lac Écho centre, where she met with young residents. It was a particularly touching moment that perfectly illustrated the message of hope she wished to convey: with perseverance and support, it is possible to overcome addiction challenges and thrive.

Thanks to her determination and the support of all contributors, $5,000 was raised. The funds collected through this challenge will help finance therapeutic, sports, and cultural activities, which are essential for helping youth develop healthy interests, build self-confidence, and maintain their sobriety.

Portage wishes to thank Malyka and Défi sans dépendance for this meaningful initiative that will directly contribute to the well-being and recovery of youth in our program.
