Putting into practice the skills acquired in therapy
Saint-Malachie, August 14, 2023 – From August 14 to 17, Portage proudly welcomes the long-awaited 21st edition of the Portage Games to the Saint-Malachie site after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The event, which takes place over one week of lively camaraderie and competition, will bring together some 90 residents from Portage's adolescent rehabilitation centers in Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario.
The Games allow participants to celebrate their recovery journeys and put various skills into practice that they acquired during their stay at Portage—notably, teamwork.
"This is a unique opportunity for residents to realize that they are not alone in their efforts to take back control of their lives and to be able to apply the skills and values taught at Portage throughout the week," says Cindy Chabot, Director of the Saint-Malachie center. "The competition is on to win the event's most coveted prize: The Best Sportsmanship Award!"
Renewed Success
Throughout the week, teams from different centres will engage in friendly competition across various sports, including volleyball, field hockey, soccer and basketball. The atmosphere will be one of community as residents share their stories and rehabilitation experiences, strengthening their support for one another. Every year, this event is a testament to the determination of young people, highlighting their commitment to personal growth and recovery.
Portage extends its gratitude to the participants, volunteers and staff whose dedication is sure to make the 21st Portage Games a success. This inspiring event will not only highlight the power of rehabilitation. It will also emphasize the importance of fostering a supportive community for young people seeking to live healthy, positive lives.
