FAQ – Portage’s Family Services

Why offer support to loved ones? Expand

Because addiction affects the whole family. By supporting those close to the person in treatment, we promote better recovery outcomes and improved well-being for everyone involved.

What types of support are offered to families? Expand
  • One-on-one meetings with a counsellor to ask questions or discuss personal situations
  • Regular support groups to break isolation, share experiences, and learn practical tools
What happens in support groups? Expand

Support groups help loved ones better understand addiction, explore Portage’s approach, and prepare for their family member’s reintegration. They also provide a space for listening, sharing, and solidarity.

Can I participate even if my loved one isn’t in treatment yet? Expand

Yes. You can contact Portage for support even if your loved one hasn’t been admitted yet. We’re here to support you from the very first steps.

How can I get involved in the treatment process? Expand

By attending meetings, maintaining open communication with staff, and equipping yourself to better understand what your loved one is going through. Your involvement can make a real difference.
