The program’s duration is determined by each individual’s needs, motivation, and readiness for treatment; it rarely lasts for longer than six months.

No. Referrals to the program can be made by the clients themselves, their families or guardians, social service agencies, hospitals, community resources, courts, schools, and other treatment providers.
Residents can speak with their family members on the telephone three times a week. After three weeks of therapy, the first family visit occurs on Portage premises for a 6 hour period. Following this initial visit, residents can leave the centre for day visits with their family every 3 weeks. Once the resident reaches a certain level in their therapy, they can spend the weekends with their family, which helps them prepare for social reintegration. The family visit schedule is subject to change, at the discretion of the resident’s caseworker.
