On July 8, Portage welcomed 33 education professionals to its Lac\u00a0\u00c9cho\u00a0facility for a tour and presentation of its\u00a0Adolescent and Young Adult Program (14 to 21 years old)<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Organized in collaboration with the\u00a0Lester B. Pearson School Board<\/b><\/a>, the visit brought together vice principals\u00a0representing\u00a0every high school within the board’s territory.\u00a0Portage was also\u00a0honoured\u00a0to welcome\u00a0Director General Cindy Finn<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Regional Director Kathleen O’Reilly<\/b>, whose leadership and collaboration helped make this initiative possible. We extend a special thank you to Ms. O’Reilly for coordinating this valuable partnership opportunity with Portage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0Participants had the opportunity to learn more about\u00a0<\/strong>Portage’s therapeutic community model<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and the specialized supports available to young people experiencing substance use challenges.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The day also\u00a0provided\u00a0an opportunity to present the services available to adolescents and their families, while discussing referral pathways and the resources available to support youth who may\u00a0benefit\u00a0from specialized care.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between schools and addiction treatment services. Schools are often among the first places where challenges are\u00a0identified\u00a0and can play\u00a0an important role\u00a0in helping young people and their families connect with\u00a0appropriate support.\u00a0<\/p>\n

By strengthening relationships between the education sector and specialized service providers, initiatives such as this help build a stronger network of care for youth and families across the West Island. They also reflect a shared commitment to improving access to services and supporting student well-being.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Portage would like to thank the\u00a0Lester B. Pearson School Board<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and all participants for their engagement, interest, and dedication to supporting young people in our communities. Together, we are building stronger partnerships that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth and their families.<\/p>\n
