Since January 2026, Portage has held a series of five clinical ethics workshops, bringing together 142 participants from its teams and leadership across all centres.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
These sessions aimed to highlight the role of the Clinical Ethics Committee (CEC) and to provide practical support to staff facing challenges in the field.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

The\u00a0role\u00a0of the\u00a0Clinical\u00a0Ethics\u00a0Committee<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
The CEC plays a key role within Portage. Its composition reflects the diversity of professional backgrounds, client populations and, whenever possible, the organization’s service settings.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
It\u00a0draws\u00a0in\u00a0particular\u00a0on the expertise of \u00c9lodie Petit,\u00a0ethics\u00a0consultant and Chair of the CEC<\/a>, as\u00a0well\u00a0as Louise Bernier,\u00a0law\u00a0professor\u00a0at the Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke and\u00a0legal\u00a0member\u00a0of the\u00a0Committee<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n The\u00a0CEC’s\u00a0mandate\u00a0is\u00a0to:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n <\/p>\r\n Collectively\u00a0reflecting\u00a0on\u00a0complex\u00a0situations<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n In\u00a0their\u00a0day-to-day\u00a0work,\u00a0teams\u00a0may\u00a0face situations\u00a0that\u00a0raise\u00a0questions,\u00a0doubts\u00a0or\u00a0discomfort\u00a0about the best course of action.\u00a0Clinical\u00a0ethics\u00a0is\u00a0grounded\u00a0in\u00a0this\u00a0reflection,\u00a0seeking\u00a0to\u00a0answer\u00a0a\u00a0fundamental\u00a0question: how do\u00a0we\u00a0do the right\u00a0thing?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n The workshops enabled participants to work through a real-life case scenario and engage in an ethical deliberation exercise, similar to that conducted by a committee. This approach supports a deeper understanding of the issues while valuing diverse perspectives.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n <\/p>\r\n A\u00a0commitment\u00a0to\u00a0thoughtful\u00a0and\u00a0fair\u00a0practices<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n This series of workshops reflects Portage’s commitment to supporting its teams in delivering rigorous, compassionate and value-driven clinical care.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n By fostering structured, collective reflection, the Clinical Ethics Committee helps strengthen the quality of services and supports informed decision-making, for the benefit of clients and the therapeutic\u00a0community<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n Ethical reflection continues on a daily basis.
