To date,\nthe event has raised over $180,000, which helps teens between the ages of 14\nand 18 find freedom from addiction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In previous years, cyclists and volunteers of all ages and skill levels took on the scenic trails and country roads that altogether make up the Centre Wellington region. Logistics looked a little different this year, as riders could not go out as groups. Instead, cyclists were encouraged to participate virtually for the entire week of September 14<sup>th<\/sup>. This format made it so that participants across Ontario could walk, run, or cycle all on their own time. \u201cWe had 26 participants challenge themselves and collectively raised more than $25,000 in peer-to-peer donations and sponsorships,\u201d said Ashley-Ann Maginnis, manager of development at the Elora centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.5-576x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25200\" width=\"230\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.5-576x768.jpg 576w, https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.5-150x200.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The tremendous support for this year\u2019s virtual event not only helped raise funds, but it also created community awareness around the issue of substance abuse. \u201cThis ride continues to bring the cycling community together year after year to support youth in Ontario,\u201d said Maginnis. \u201cThis year, COVID-19 stopped the riders from cycling together, but it didn\u2019t stop their commitment to helping youth suffering from substance abuse-related problems to overcome their dependencies and live healthy, happy, and productive lives.\u201d During these difficult times, this level of support, community, and generosity is truly above and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.1-576x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25202\" width=\"244\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.1-576x768.jpg 576w, https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P4P.1-150x200.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 244px) 100vw, 244px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Pedal for Portage continues to be possible thanks to the generosity of\nmany participants, donors, and sponsors, including Alliance Roofing, Alpha\nGraphics and Signs, Barry Cullen, Linton Pasture Pork, Nick\u2019s Quick Delivery,\nand RLB Charted Professional Accountant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Portage Ontario hosted its third annual Pedal for Portage fundraiser this fall to raise funds for Portage\u2019s residential drug addiction rehabilitation centre in Elora, Ontario.
