Surrounded by his loved ones, colleagues and several well-known members of the business community, Mr. Lamarre was honoured during a splendid evening with a Cirque-inspired theme.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"133\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19567\" src=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Jongleurs-133x200-133x200.jpg\" alt=\"Jongleurs-133x200\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19571\" src=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/d\u00e9cor-SGP-2017-300x200-1.jpg\" alt=\"d\u00e9cor-SGP-2017-300x200\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"129\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19568\" src=\"https:\/\/portage.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Lamarre-et-Garou-129x200-129x200.jpg\" alt=\"Lamarre-et-Garou-129x200\" \/>\n<p>The 14th edition of the <em>Soir\u00e9e des Grands Philanthropes<\/em> raised $1,125, 000 to help Portage rebuild lives. All funds go to Portage programs in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most touching moments of the evening was when GianCarlo, a youth who has completed the Portage program, spoke bravely about his journey:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I realized I was losing friends because they were dying or going to jail, that\u2019s when I understood the sadness I was causing my parents and the danger I was in. My parents suggested I go to Portage, and that\u2019s where I took control of my life again, finished Secondary 5 and built a new, healthy social circle with my brothers in treatment. <strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0Now that I have completed my program at Portage, I am going to Cegep and I have several exciting projects ahead of me. Thank you to everyone! I am grateful for Portage\u2019s invaluable support.<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lamarre then spoke, saying \u201cIn all modesty, I invite you hereafter not to refer to this evening by my name, as you will surely agree with me that it should bear GianCarlo\u2019s name.<strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Portage wishes to thank the co-chairmen of the <em>Soir\u00e9e des grands philanthropes<\/em>, Andr\u00e9 Chagnon and Guy Cormier, and the members of the honourary committee: Robert Blain, France Chr\u00e9tien Desmarais, Michel Dallaire, Marcel Dutil, Serge Godin, Peter. A. Howlett, Fran\u00e7ois Olivier, John Rae, Calin Rovinescu, Colette Taylor and Louis Vachon.<\/p>\n<p>Portage also wishes to thank its partners, the 700 participants and its volunteers. Their generosity, hard work and commitment are the key to our success.<\/p>\n<p>Our youth need your support now more than ever.
