Looking back with gratitude and forward with hope: An emotional Recognition Ceremony for Portage Atlantic’s 20th anniversary 

Portage Atlantic hosted its twentieth annual Recognition Ceremony this fall, honouring twenty-six graduates for having completed various stages of the residential and aftercare components of the drug addiction rehabilitation program. Making the ceremony even more special this year, Portage Atlantic welcomed graduates and collaborators from the past two decades who have helped to make the treatment centre what it is today, in order to celebrate the organisation’s twentieth anniversary in style.

District N-1 Lions Clubs bring some Holiday magic to the youth in treatment

As they do every year during the Holiday season, members of the District N-1 Lions Clubs hosted their special event for the youth in treatment at Cassidy Lake. The residents, for whom the Holidays in recent years may have been difficult times, greatly appreciated the generosity and warmth of the Lions. Guests also had the opportunity to witness the emotional transition of one of the residents who had completed the residential phase of treatment and was heading home with her family.

Construction of the Lewis Fitness Centre

A pilot program to make transgender youth more comfortable while in drug rehabilitation treatment 

All of the potential stresses of adolescence that may contribute to substance abuse can be compounded by a struggle with sexual identity. In order to better respond to the needs of clients who identify themselves as transgender, Portage Atlantic has put a pilot project in place at its residential drug addiction rehabilitation centre.
