Soirée des Grands Philanthropes

Portage's Soirée des Grands Philanthropes is an opportunity to pay tribute to an outstanding individual from Québec’s business community. Since 2004, Portage has honoured leaders, entrepreneurs and major philanthropists who cultivate excellence and promote the progress and well-being of society through their commitment and vision. All profits from this well-attended event will be dedicated to Portage’s programs in Quebec.

This year, Portage proudly pays tribute to Guy Cormier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group. This exceptional man sets himself apart through his outstanding contribution to the well-being of individuals and communities, his support to the business community, his commitment to socio-economic development in Quebec and across the country, and his unwavering support for youth and for the place of women in organizations.

Guy Cormier’s Philanthropic Commitment

Guy Cormier has been involved with various social and charitable organizations for many years. Since 2016, he's served as an honorary chair for over 30 events in support of youth, women, and entrepreneurs.

Cormier is especially engaged with youth, working to amplify their voice and helping them reach their full potential. Not only has he travelled across Quebec and Ontario to meet with young people and work with organizations like Academos and Forces AVENIR, but he's also launching a major national event for the younger generation.

As a leader, Cormier has been a committed ally to women and made gender parity in his organization a priority. He's been named a Catalyst Honours Champion and been awarded the Alter Ego award from the Association of Quebec Women in Finance (AFFQ) for the initiatives he's spearheaded.

Cormier is also committed to maintaining a close relationship with the entrepreneurial community so he can share his own experience and understand more about their needs. The GoodSpark Fund, which he launched, is an extraordinary driver for investment. It provides direct support for small businesses and an opportunity to actively participate in the socio-economic development of our communities.

"I think of philanthropy as a compassionate word we can translate into concrete action. It's a vehicle for us to focus on others and it inspires us to keep sharing, which is a fundamental part of our society.

Desjardins and Portage have been working closely together for over 30 years now. Together, we'll continue making a real difference for people who want to turn their lives around."

We are proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Soirée des Grands Philanthropes, during which we will be paying a posthumous tribute to Mr. André Chagnon, who believed in this event from the start. He gave it his approval and unwavering support throughout the years.

A visionary businessman, as well as a committed and renowned philanthropist, Mr. Chagnon was an important member of the large Portage family and vice-chaired its Board of Directors for 50 years. His contribution to Portage was invaluable.

Following a successful career at Videotron, André Chagnon chose to devote himself to creating the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation. He devoted his resources to supporting practical actions in the community, ensuring their continuity and, in doing so, promoting lasting change.

His life’s work has helped thousands of people in need, including Portage clients, by giving them hope for a better life.

On behalf of the entire Portage family, our most heartfelt thanks Mr. Chagnon.
