Portage studies the effects of childhood abuse on those in treatment for drug addiction

Portage Quebec In 2011, the Bureau d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels agreed to fund a project at the Portage addiction rehabilitation centre in Québec City, specifically tailored to clients who had been physically or sexually abused. The purpose of the project was not only to provide better support for these clients but also to gain a better understanding of how this abuse has affected their abilities to find work and keep a job.  It also sought out to deepen the understanding of the life trajectory and the needs of addicts who have been victims of physical, sexual or psychological abuse.

Portage’s 40th anniversary

“Un rendez-vous à la bibliothèque”
A new event for the Portage Foundation, “Un rendez-vous à la bibliothèque,” will feature a gourmet meal at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac’s Le Champlain restaurant, on Wednesday, March 20 2013. All proceeds from this fundraising event, sponsored by the Château Frontenac, will be donated to Portage’s adolescent program in Saint-Malachie.

A committee to watch over the rights of Portage residents

Portage’s Users’ Committee, made up of representatives from each of Portage’s rehabilitation centres in Québec, works to continually improve the resident experience and is responsible for ensuring that residents are aware of their rights and responsibilities.

Encouraging the youth at Portage lac Écho to have a healthy and active lifestyle

Portage lac Echo ados Quebec en formeWith the financial support of the Regroupement Courant-Nord de Québec en Forme, Portage has been able to establish a three-part healthy lifestyle program for its adolescent community at Portage Prévost.  Since last fall, the program has been teaching residents about physical fitness, healthy eating, and tobacco reduction.  The project encourages the youth to take responsibility for their personal health and to enjoy an active lifestyle, which will help them better manage stress and also increase their self-confidence.
