Recognition Ceremonies in Montréal and Québec

Last October, parents, friends and relatives gathered for this emotionally-charged afternoon to watch diplomas being presented to the graduates of all the Quebec and Montreal Portage programs: the Lac Écho Adolescent Program, the Lac Écho Adult Program, the West Island Adolescent Program, the Program for men suffering from mental illness (MICA), the Mother and Child Program, the Saint-Malachie and the Québec Adult Program. Each graduate received an official diploma, underlining the achievement of his or her therapy process.

Resounding success for the Soirée des Grands Philanthropes

philanthropes2014The 2014 Soirée des Grands Philanthropes held in honour of Louis Vachon, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Bank, was the most successful event yet organised by The Portage Foundation. Thanks to the generous contributions of donors, businesses and individuals committed to Portage’s humanitarian mission, a record net amount of $1,400,000 was donated to the organisation.

The eldest son of a soldier who was often called away on duty, Dave was entrusted with the care of his family and became the “man of the house” at a very young age. Feeling very pressured by this responsibility, he started taking drugs in sixth grade and soon plunged into the inferno of drug addiction. Instead of taking care of his family, he spread terror around himself with his impulsiveness, his violence and his destructive behaviour. 

When he was 18, Dave checked into Portage, where he completed a four-month course of therapy, punctuated by low and high points. He then went on to live drug-free for five years, during which he went back to school, found a job and started a family.”  Read all of Dave’s story …

Portage and the National Addictions Awareness Week

Portage took advantage of Drug Awareness Week, which runs from November 16 to 22, to highlight the problem of Illegal Synthetic drug abuse in our society. The Portage Communications office deployed all efforts to raise awareness and inform the public and the politicians about drug abuse issues.
