Portage Recognition CeremonyOvercoming substance abuse – reconnecting with loved ones, going back to work or to school, becoming an active member of society, and making that commitment to never again live in the shadows – is a remarkable achievement that deserves a remarkable celebration!  In Montréal on September 22 and in Québec City on October 20, Portage graduates were honoured at the 2013 Recognition Ceremonies.

Soirée des Grands Philanthropes Tribute Evening honouring Paul Desmarais, Jr.

Portage Soiree des Grands PhilanthropesThe tenth annual Soirée des Grands Philanthropes Tribute Evening, which this year honoured Paul Desmarais, Jr., Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Power Corporation of Canada, was held on October 3 in Montréal’s Windsor Station.  The event was a resounding success, netting $1,325,000.

 Portage Homecoming On September 8, Portage joined health and addictions organisations across the country to celebrate Canada’s second annual Recovery Day.  In Québec, Portage organised a Homecoming event for the graduates of Portage’s rehabilitation centres in the Montréal region.

New training program offered by the Université de Sherbrooke

This fall, several Portage staff members will be heading back to school.  Approximately forty employees will be attending a new training program delivered on-site at Portage’s rehabilitation centre in Prévost by the Université de Sherbrooke.

Portage Olympics bring together residents from all Eastern Canadian Portage centres

Portage Olympics hockeyFrom August 5 to 8, 2013, over a hundred residents from Portage’s rehabilitation centres in Québec, Ontario, and New Brunswick gathered at Portage Saint-Malachie, to compete in various team sports in the annual Portage Olympics. It was the first time in many years that all Portage centres for adolescents in Eastern Canada were represented.

Portage residents walk for mental health

On Sunday October 20, a group of Portage residents and staff members got together for a five kilometre mental health awareness walk through the streets of downtown Montréal.  Residents and staff members from Portage Beaconsfield and from Portage’s Mother and Child centre teamed up with residents and staff members from the Portage Program for Mentally Ill Chemical Abusers (MICA), in support of the MICA Program.
