An inside look into Portage Elora’s social reintegration program
Whether in Guelph, Port Elgin, Ottawa, Kitchener, Toronto, or anywhere else in Ontario, Christy Kolb travels on a weekly basis to meet with the youth who are in Portage Elora’s Continuing Care Program. As a reintegration counsellor, Christy supports graduates of the residential drug rehabilitation program for an eighteen month period, as they transition back into mainstream society. This is one of the most challenging and fragile periods in the rehabilitation process, as new values, behaviours, and attitudes get put to the test in an outside environment.
Dear Portage, you helped get Dave back on track
Portage recently received the following letter of appreciation from a foster father who had taken in a graduate from the Portage drug rehabilitation program in Elora a few years ago. It is a heartwarming story that“illustrates the underlying strength of the Portage treatment program.”

An essential element of Portage’s rehabilitation treatment programs are the services it offers to residents’ family members. Provided through group meetings and individual support, these services help parents understand and manage the issues created by a drug-dependent family member.
