June, 2019; The Portage Academy at Elora is an on-site Section 23 School approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education, operated in partnership with the Upper Grand District School Board. The Academy delivers high school curriculum to the youth in treatment. Attendance at school is a mandatory requirement of the Portage Ontario residential drug rehabilitation program. Regular recreation and sports activities complement the therapy and classroom work, promoting physical health and well-being. Using these progressive techniques, the Portage Academy helps students earn high school credits and develop the skills they need to pursue a successful education after they leave Portage.
To further promote the success of its young residents, Portage Ontario is pleased to announce the launch of a bursary program for youth who have attended the Portage Academy and successfully completed the Portage residential drug rehabilitation program, and met certain educational and life skills criteria. The bursary can be used towards a recognised post-secondary education or a recognized trades program.
Two residents have been awarded bursaries as part of this program.
Thanks to the generosity of St. John’s Anglican Church in Elora, one girl received a one-time grant of $500 for her college diploma.
Thanks to the generosity of Desjardins Foundation, one boy who has been accepted into a three-year apprenticeship program at a college, will receive $500 a year for two years.
