CBC News – Prince Edward Island
Kyle Kenny, a 24 year old resident of PEI, wanted to go to Portage’s residential substance abuse rehabilitation centre in New Brunswick, following several months in jail for theft to feed his drug addiction. Having gotten clean in jail, he sought addiction services to help him keep it up once he was released.
The system made this impossible for him. Now out of jail, he will only have access to these services in a few weeks, and he is scared that he may relapse in that time.
The PEI Government is currently working to increase collaboration between Addictions PEI and PEI Corrections so that people like Kyle do not need to start over again once they get out of prison.
