Rehab centre receives job funding
CASSIDY LAKE – When Tim O’Connell first came to Portage Atlantic, the Torontonian wasn’t sure he’d make it out the other end. Portage Atlantic in Cassidy Lake is rehabilitation centre for youth with drug addiction issues.
“It was the most excruciating time of my life,” he said of battling his addiction. “The program was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. At the time I never imagined I’d ever want to come back here.”
Now the 23-year-old Portage graduate, who has since moved to Sussex, is returning to the centre, this time in a supervisory role to support those now going through the program and to gain essential job experience.
The centre is able to hire O’Connell using federal funding that supports youth employment training.
