Portage marks 40 years
Pat Bourgeois credits the four months he’s spent so far at Portage Atlantic with saving his life and helping him overcome years of drug addiction.
“Seven to eight months ago I was messed up,” the 19-year-old said Thursday in a conference room at the Cassidy Lake treatment centre. “I was near death. I was only 124 pounds and had no control over my life.”
Bourgeois quit school at 16. The weekend of the Feb. 23, he’ll write his General Educational Development tests.
On Thursday, Bourgeois was one of 41 residents who gathered to hear Geordie Gould, Portage Atlantic’s adolescent program director, mark the 40 years since the first Portage facility opened.
