N.B. addictions centre has beds that could treat P.E.I. patients: Aylward

 

An addictions rehabilitation centre in New Brunswick currently has beds available and could provide much needed help for Islanders struggling with addictions, says the health critic for the Opposition Conservatives.

James Aylward believes the provincial government has a great opportunity to support Islanders with substance dependencies by making this centre more accessible, until a long-term solution for drug addiction in the province is achieved.

Aylward suggested that government could reduce spending, but still provide access to care by negotiating a stable contract with the Portage Centre instead of using the current per diem model.

“By negotiating a contract for service with the Portage Centre, government would be able to ensure Islanders get the immediate treatment they require, in a much more cost effective manner,” Aylward said.
