New Brunswick’s southwest MLA’s meet the youth at Cassidy Lake

On June 10, 2013 seventeen New Brunswick MLA’s descended upon the Portage substance abuse rehabilitation centre for youth at Cassidy Lake for their annual caucus meeting.  While there, they met with the young people in treatment and took a tour of the facility.

Profile on a Portage Atlantic graduate: Dan Martell finds ‘his way’

Portage Atlantic graduate Dan MartellAt seventeen years of age, Dan Martell turned his back on a life of drugs, violence, and crime and chose to walk through the doors of the Portage Atlantic substance abuse rehabilitation centre for youth at Cassidy Lake.  Sixteen years later, he is a celebrated entrepreneur, angel investor, and public mentor, living between the Silicon Valley and Moncton, NB with his family.

Portage celebrates its 40th anniversary!

Portage 40 logoA fortieth anniversary is a momentous occasion for any organisation, but forty years of helping people overcome substance abuse to once again become productive members of society is a real cause for celebration. On February 14, 2013, Portage centres across Canada were proud to celebrate this contribution to society with current residents, graduates, and friends of Portage from over the years.

Portage Atlantic’s Lewis Fitness Centre Capital Campaign

Portage Lewis Fitness CentreWith a very generous donation from the late Dr. William Lewis, Portage Atlantic is planning for the Lewis Fitness Centre Capital Campaign, which seeks to raise an additional $800,000 for the construction of a brand new fitness centre to be built on-site for the youth in substance abuse treatment at Cassidy Lake.  Already, a donation of $11,000 has been received from the Nashwaaksis Lions Club.

Spring staff training at Cassidy Lake

In the field of addiction treatment, the needs of clients are continually evolving. To manage the changing landscape, Portage has been adapting its service offering over the years and providing new training and development opportunities to its staff members in order to comply with best practices. Most recently, Portage Atlantic staff members participated in a training session with Corrections Canada called Becoming Trauma Informed.
