Cassidy Lake, NB, October 22, 2017 – Portage Atlantic hosted its Annual Recognition Ceremony today at its drug addiction rehabilitation centre on the shores of Cassidy Lake. The ceremony pays tribute to the youth who have either completed the residential phase of their rehabilitation treatment program, or who have maintained a positive lifestyle since they graduated a year ago.
The stage decorations featured the sketch of a boat with wind in its sails: a drawing that exemplified this year’s Recognition theme, “You Didn’t Come This Far… To Not Go Any Further”. The feeling of pride and appreciation radiated as each the graduates walked across the stage to accept their Recognition certificate. Fred Laforge, a former Portage Atlantic graduate said, “Receiving my certificate in 2001 was the greatest accomplishment I had ever done at that time and I was so proud to have finally succeeded at something after all these years. I was now ready to take on my next biggest challenge, going back into society and embracing life as a sober person”.
Some 300 special guests attended the event, including guest speaker and Portage Atlantic board member, Dr. Dennis Furlong. “Fitness therapy goes hand in hand with emotional therapy. The activities offered in the new Lewis Fitness Centre will greatly improve a necessary component to the programming and help youth in their life’s journey in every way”, said Dr. Furlong.
These new graduates have come a long way and now have the tools and confidence to live a positive lifestyle as they continue their journey.
