Honouring our Most Valued Partners
Private sector contributions are an essential source of support for Portage. These donations ensure the viability of our organisation and strengthen our ties to the community. On October 7th, Portage honoured its loyal partners, who have supported the organisation from the very beginning:
• Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec
• Desjardins Group
• Fondation Marcelle et Jean Coutu
• Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon
• IBM Canada Ltd.
• Hydro Québec
• The EJLB Foundation
In recognition of their support, plaques have been created in their honour and now hang in various Portage centres. Recognition walls have also been installed in the entrance of Portage’s Montreal Head Office and at the Day Centre in Québec City.
It was also an evening to acknowledge Mrs. Dorothy Reitman, cofounder of Portage and active member of the community. Mrs. Reitman was the first woman to be elected President of the Canadian Jewish Congress in 2007 and was recognised for her work by the YMCA in 2008. She remains very involved with Portage as a member of the Board of Directors and member of the Montreal campaign committee.
Celebrating the accomplishments of Portage graduates
Portage’s highly anticipated Recognition Celebrations were held in Québec City and in Montréal last fall. The ceremonies celebrated the achievements of both the individuals who had successfully completed the residential phase of the Portage program along with former graduates who have managed to maintain a positive lifestyle for one year.
In Québec City, Portage paid tribute to 70 graduates under the honourary presidency of Mr. Jean Drolet, MP for Jean Lesage. In Montréal, 150 graduates were honoured in front of their families and the Portage community. They received their diplomas from Mrs. Lise Thériault, Minister for Social Services.
For Portage graduates, the Recognition Ceremony is an important milestone in their journey, which they can share with their family and friends who supported them throughout the process.
“Today, I am proud of the distance I have travelled. I will continue to take this one step at a time, and I know I will reach the top.”
– Isabelle, 33, received her certificate at the 2009 Recognition Ceremony in Québec City.
