Celebrating Portage Atlantic’s 20th anniversary

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Portage Atlantic has been reaching out to those whose lives have been touched by Portage over the past two decades, and helping them to tell their stories.

Portage Atlantic VolunteersOn April 19, 2016, Portage Atlantic staff members, youth, and volunteers were on-hand at the rehabilitation centre for a special gathering to highlight the extraordinary contribution of Portage’s volunteers. “Portage Atlantic is a living testament of the hard work and perseverance volunteers have provided over the years,” said Portage staff member, Joelene Burgess.

Trades Orientation Program at Portage Atlantic

Trades OrientationThis spring, a seven-week Trades Orientation Program was offered to the youth in treatment at Portage Atlantic by the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. The program provided hands-on learning to students with an interest in the skilled trades.

Portage Altantic brings its awareness-building Community Breakfast series to Nova Scotia

Community BreakfastAt the beginning of June, Portage Atlantic hosted community breakfasts in Sydney and Truro, Nova Scotia. An engaged and diverse group of community members came out for each of the events to discuss the topic of substance abuse among youth and to learn more about Portage’s drug addiction rehabilitation program at Cassidy Lake.

McKesson Foundation donation purchases new bikes for the youth in treatment 

McKesson FoundationThanks to a very generous donation from long-time supporters, the McKesson Foundation, the youth in treatment at Portage Atlantic’s drug addiction rehabilitation centre eagerly welcomed ten new Rocky Mountain bicycles and new helmets from Outdoor Elements in Sussex this spring.  They have been enjoying the new bikes on the centre’s Recovery Trail through the woods and during off-site activities.
