Spring has finally sprung, which means that Portage Atlantic and the Future Focus Foundation are gearing up once again for another edition of the Stride for Success Charity relay, the charity portion of Saint John’s annual Run Through History: Celebration of Green Space marathon event.
This year’s Stride for Success run will take place on Sunday, July 10th, as the second of three annual charity relays taking place to raise money for the Recovery Trail at Cassidy Lake.
The Recovery Trail Project will develop a 3.8 km route on the Cassidy Lake campus into a safe and picturesque path where the young people undergoing substance abuse treatment can go walking, running, biking, and snowshoeing. Portage understands that physical activity is an integral aspect of healthy living, and helps residents feel good about themselves. The Cassidy Lake centre incorporates extracurricular activities into its daily therapeutic programming as a way of encouraging teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution, self-confidence, and an overall sense of well-being. For more details on the Recovery Trail Project, please read the Recovery Trail Case for Support.
We need your help!
Portage Atlantic and the Future Focus Foundation are calling for teams to participate in the relay and to help us raise funds for the Recovery Trail. With lots of great prizes to be won and fun to be had, why not put on your sneakers and get outside?
Teams are made up of eight people, but if any participants want to run the 2.6 mile course more than once, you may enter a smaller team. The event welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels. The goal is simply to get out, have fun, and support the youth who are working hard each day to turn their lives around at the Portage rehabilitation centre at Cassidy Lake.
