As they work on their addiction issues, the women at Portage’s rehabilitation centre in Prévost are also working on their physical health. An intern at Portage, who is currently studying Correctional Intervention, created a training program for them as part of a school project.
The women’s community participated in the group circuit training program twice a week for six weeks. They helped to establish priorities and set goals for themselves that they continually evaluated throughout the program. This activity was also an exercise in positive reinforcement and self-esteem. It was greatly appreciated by all participants.
