The three to five year old group of youngsters at Portage’s Mother and Child centre took advantage of winter in February with an overnight stay at a chalet in Venise, Québec. Among other things, the children enjoyed playing in the snow with their teachers on Lake Champlain. One of the highlights for the children was watching a fisherman make a hole in the ice to do some ice fishing. The visit was topped off by a bonfire at night, around which they roasted marshmallows and enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate. Simple pleasures, good food, and lots of snow, made it a trip to remember for the children.
