While golf experienced an unprecedented interest during the pandemic, and despite everything being ready for the 26th Edition of the Golf Open in the Quebec City area, Mother Nature decided otherwise and the event that was to be held on June 14th at the Quebec Royal Golf Club had to be cancelled.

It was a deception for everyone who expected a wonderful day at this prestigious Golf Club for the first time.

As compensation, the Golf Club gave four (4) greens fees to each company that had booked a foursome to be enjoyed with their guests on the day of their choosing.

This unusual situation did have a silver lining: an exceptional amount of $94,000 was raised, including $7,200 for the interactive auction which had highly coveted items offered by our generous donors.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Organizing Committee chaired by Martin Vézina, Vice-President of Sales at PPI, for all the efforts made to complete the sales of foursomes by early April with 160 golfers, a record number of participants. We would also like to thank all our partners who showed remarkable generosity and understanding regarding the cancellation, not to mention the Quebec Royal Golf Club, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and Auberge Saint-Antoine who did their utmost to keep costs to a minimum.

We would also like to acknowledge our Prestige Partners’ generosity: Bell, Desjardins, IBM Canada, Epsylon Concept, EY, Canam Group, HUB International Quebec, LGS (an IBM company), Loran Technologies and Consulting Services, PMT ROY Insurance and Financial Services, and PPI.

As the food already ordered for the golfers’ brunch would have gone to waste, we distributed all 160 breakfasts to Maison Mère-Mallet, which provides accommodation and meals to those in need in the Quebec City area. Our gesture brought happiness to vulnerable people who are deeply affected by the pandemic’s devasting effects.

In closing, the activity will benefit adolescents and young adults aged 18 to 21 at the residential centre in Saint-Malachie. The money raised will be dedicated to enhance and adapt our services to today’s reality. Thanks to all the participants’ outpouring of solidarity and generosity, residents can keep believing in their dreams and hope for a better future.
