On June 24, 2010, Portage Saint-Malachie hosted its first open house on the occasion of Saint-Jean Baptiste Day. Residents welcomed their parents for a fun day of activities, such as the construction of an Amerindian teepee and a giant water fight. They also enjoyed a beautiful buffet dinner on the facility’s large balcony.
At the end of the day, the staff held an informal meeting with all the parents to discuss drug addiction, the rehabilitation process at Portage, and what the parents can do to be involved in their child’s journey toward sobriety. The parents expressed how happy they were to see how their children were growing with the Portage program.
Given the success of this first open house for parents, Portage Saint-Malachie now intends to host two or three of them every year.
