About Portage

Following the great success of 2011-2012, where Portage Saint-Malachie residents were able to help introduce two hundred salmon fry into the river that runs next to the rehabilitation centre, the girls’ community is once again working with the Etchemin River Safeguarding Group on a similar project.

They are currently raising the alevins in a special culture tank inside the Portage Saint-Malachie centre. They will supervise the eggs’ progress until they grow into full-fledged fry, at which time they will be released into the river.

The girls are greatly enjoying this educational activity on environmental protection, and have taken on a leading role in managing the project.
