About Portage

12-14-2013

As part of National Addiction Awareness Week in November, the adolescents in treatment at Portage’s rehabilitation centre at lac Écho participated in La gang allumée’s smoking prevention activity, called “Tobacco is also a drug.” Residents created a huge mural made up of sticky notes on which they all completed the following sentence: “Not smoking allows me to ______”.

The purpose of the activity was to raise awareness among the youth about how addictive tobacco is and to encourage them to appreciate the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Tobacco reduction is one of the elements of Portage’s healthy lifestyles program, developed through a partnership with Québec en Forme’s Regroupement Courant-Nord.

La gang allumée is a movement made up of youth between the ages of 11 and 17 – smokers and non-smokers alike – who want to prevent and reduce tobacco use in their environment and in society as a whole.
