About Portage

A central tenet of Portage’s philosophy is that it is by, for, and of the community.

Every time Portage has developed a new program in Québec, Ontario or Atlantic Canada, it has been the community that has requested it, and a vibrant group of concerned local volunteers who have fought to put the program in place to respond to community needs.  Portage would not be what it is today without these devoted volunteers.

During National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 6 to 12, 2014, Portage would like to thank all of our volunteers for helping us to build stronger communities. Together, we are helping the youth, adults, mothers, and mentally ill in treatment at our centres to develop the skills and self-confidence to overcome their substance abuse issues and become productive members of society.
