Saint-Malachie, May 14, 2014 – Portage’s “Rebuilding Lives” Capital Campaign was officially brought to a close today at the Portage Saint-Malachie rehabilitation centre for youth.  On hand to celebrate were Campaign Co-Chairs, Michel Dallaire, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust, and Mario Cusson, President and Chief Operating Officer, L’Unique General Insurance, along with several other members of the Campaign Committee, as well as Portage Saint-Malachie’s partners, residents, and staff members. The successful three-year, $3.2 million campaign allowed for the renovation, expansion, and improvement of the facility’s infrastructure.

The residential drug addiction rehabilitation centre in Saint-Malachie is home to forty adolescent boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18 who are working to develop the confidence and competencies to take back control of their lives. The program welcomes youth from Eastern Québec, particularly the Québec City and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.
“The centre’s expansion was necessary in order to meet the growing demand for services and to provide a suitable environment to respond to the needs of the youth in treatment,” said Bruce Ferguson, Director of the centre.
Portage is grateful to have been able to count on the support of many donors since its first centre was opened in 1973. For this campaign in particular, Portage would like to recognise the exceptional donations made by Bell, the Molson Foundation, Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust, Desjardins, Jean Rouleau Communication, La Capitale Financial Group, Telus, Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services, the Sisters of Charity of Québec, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, and the Fondation Carmand Normand.

“Today, I would like to say just how proud I am of the exceptional results obtained in this important campaign. Thanks to the leadership and determination of all members of the Campaign Committee, we were able to exceed our target, collecting 3.4 million dollars,” stated Colette Taylor, Portage’s Senior Director of Development.
