Portage Atlantic was recently invited to make a presentation at a two-day seminar put on by the Intersection Program, a youth organisation in the Acadian Peninsula, which seeks to help reduce absenteeism at school and lower criminal activities linked to drugs. The program works in collaboration with community resources to assist in guiding youth at risk between the ages of 13 and 16 years of age, providing them with opportunities to experience enriching and positive activities.
Portage Atlantic’s Program Manager, Luc Desjardins, presented the Cassidy Lake substance abuse rehabilitation program to a group of eighty people, including provincial addiction services, social workers and public safety representatives, psychologists and nurses, as well as youth and parents.
He stressed the importance of working together and using existing community resources to help at risk New Brunswick youth overcome their addiction issues. Two Portage Atlantic residents gave touching testimonials during the presentation, and the new French-language Portage Atlantic Francophone video was presented for the first time.
