The youth in treatment at Portage Elora participate in various community activities, to learn about participating in civic life and giving back. They recently participated in two such activities. The first was a free pumpkin carving activity that Portage Elora residents facilitated for the children at a local famers’ market in Bissel Park, Elora. The boys’ community also participated in the opening festivities for the Elora Winter Market, by designing and building an incredible five-foot pig puppet and walking and dancing with it during the Winter Market Parade.
The residents really enjoyed both of these activities, which provided them with the opportunity to practice some of the social reintegration skills that they have been working on while in treatment, such as participating in structured activities and accepting to be supervised.
