The time period between a person’s first contact with Portage and his or her actual admission to the program is critical. In order to maintain the client’s motivation throughout the inevitable delays and necessary pre-admission tasks, Portage is seeking to establish Pre Care services at all of its centres.
Pre Care services, which are currently being experimented with at two Portage centres, attempt to respond to the immediate needs of clients from first contact right through to induction into the residential program. If, during the interview process, it becomes apparent that the client is not ideally suited for the Portage treatment model, Portage will help make sure that the individual will get the help that he or she needs elsewhere.
Portage expects that these services will help reduce wait times and curtail the pre-admission dropout rate. We hope to expand these services to all Portage substance abuse rehabilitation centres over the course of 2013.
