Last summer, Portage Elora residents participated in a workshop in which they helped repair bicycles for the less fortunate. Not only did they appreciate the opportunity to give back, but they realised how rewarding it is to restore a broken bike back into shape. The experience inspired them to set up a bike repair shop at Portage Elora, run by the residents, to provide repairs and maintenance, brake, gear, and tire check, chain maintenance, and cleaning services to the community on a voluntary basis. The services are entirely free, unless parts need to be purchased.
Residents are taking great pride in this initiative and are enjoying the responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the community.
