About Portage

03-28-2014

On March 26, two Portage Elora residents participated in a local public school’s theme day on the Power of Positive Choices.

The residents each ran three workshops for the grade 7 and 8 students, using their past experience with drugs and their rehabilitation at Portage to encourage others to avoid getting involved with drugs, and to seek help if they need it.
The students had the choice of registering for six workshops on a variety of topics connected to making informed, positive choices as they navigate their way through high school and the years beyond.  Topics included fitness, nutrition, managing stress, and safe use of social media, among others.  There was a great interest in the workshops animated by the two Portage youth, and they did a fantastic job.

Portage has helped to give them the self-confidence necessary to present in front of a crowd of people. Among the tools and competencies that they have been learning in treatment are how to express themselves clearly and how to manage structured activities.
