On May 2, 2012, McDonald’s restaurants across Canada celebrated McHappy Day, an annual fundraising event where one dollar of every sale of certain menu items goes to local children’s charities. Portage Beaconsfield residents were proud to be on hand to volunteer once again this year. This was the fourth McHappy Day that the residents have participated in, working in front of and behind the counter at peak meal times. In addition to the work experience, residents received a lot of positive reinforcement and recognition for their contribution.
George Bolanis, the owner of several McDonald’s restaurants in the West Island of Montréal, has been a generous supporter of Portage’s addiction rehabilitation centre in Beaconsfield for many years. In addition to choosing Portage as one of the local charities for his restaurants’ McHappy Day proceeds, he also sponsors several meals for the Portage community throughout the school year.
Mr. Bolanis presented a $1,000 cheque to Portage Beaconsfield following McHappy Day this year, which will be spent on summer activities for the residents. Portage is very grateful for his support.
